WELLINGTON, March 8.
Conservation organisations which f decided to merge after the campaign to pre- ;. vent Lake Manapouri being raised, today held ? the inaugural meeting of the Conference on > Environment and Conservation Organisation < (Coenco).
< Included on the executive of the new organisation, which is also called the ■National Alliance of Conservation Organisations, are
many prominent conservationists.
; The chairman is Dr J. T.l I Salmon of the Forest and' Bird Protection Society andj 'among the. executive mem-' bers is Mr R. J. McLean, one of the leaders of the Save: Manapouri campaign. Others on the executive are Mr A. J. Heine (Federated Mountain Clubs), Mr R. Fantl (Institute of Architects), Mr J. Henderson (Deerstalkers’ Association), Mr D. Kember (Scenery Preservation Society), Mr P. A. Williams (Ecology Action), Mr J. D. S. Ingram (Underwater Association), Mr I. D. Cave (Hutt Valley Conservation Society), Mr B. A. Ellis (Ornithological Society), Mr C. Livesey (University Students’ Association), and Dr R. J. Jackson- (Hydrological Society). The only woman on the executive is Mrs R. J. Dell, of the National Council of Women. i
