Wool rises at Napier

(New Zealand Press Association) NAPIER, March 8. Prices for fleece, early-shorn and second-shear wools were generally 2| per cent dearer at the first day of the Napier wool sale today, compared with last Friday’s Wanganui sale.

Lamb’s-wool was in sellers’ favour and skirtings and oddments were 2} to 5 per cent dearer.

The official report said that competition was widespread, Continental interests being the principal bidders. Moderate support came from New Zealand mills.

The offering was 25,105 bales of greasy wool, drawn from all parts of Hawke’s Bay, Gisborne, the east coast, and Taupo. It was mainly full and early-shorn ewe fleece, lambs’ wool and secondshear, plus the usual percentage of skirtings and oddments.

The selection was average for this time of the season. However, in the fleece wools, staple weakness, water discolouration and cotting were fairly prevalent.
