New Army area chief
Lieutenant-Colonel W. B. F. McAllum, R.N.Z.A., has been appointed commander of the Christchurch Army area in succession to Lieu-tenant-Colonel I. B. Bennett who held the post from June last year and. who has retired from the service.
Colonel McAllum, who was commissioned in the New Zealand Army in 1950 attended the University of Canterbury where he graduated bachelor or arts. After a number of postings within the Dominion, and a period at the Australian Staff College at Queenscliff, N.S.W. he served a term in Malaysia with the Ist Battalion, Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment. In 1965 Lieutenant-Colonel McAllum was appointed second in command of Bumham Military Camp and commanding officer of the 3rd Field Regiment, R.N.Z.A. He returned to Defence Headquarters in 1968.
