Transfer fee of $428,000

The transfer tug-of-war over the English soccer star, lan Moore, took a final turn yesterday when Manchester United announced that it had signed the 27-year-old Nottingham Forest forward for a fee of about $428,000.
Last Friday, Derby County said it had signed Moore and he was a spectator at Derby’s match with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday when the Derby manager, Mr B. Clough, introduced him to the crowd as “our new signing.” But while Derby was saying that Moore had joined it, Nottingham Forest continued to say that he was still on its
books and that no transfer deal had been completed. The Manchester United manager, Mr F. O’Farrell, who signed the Scottish international defender, M. Buchan, from Aberdeen, for $235,300 last week, said yesterday: “We have signed Moore and he will be reporting for training tomorrow. All parties have signed." It was earlier reported that Derby had offered to pay $482,000 for Moore, which would have made him the most expensive player in Britain. But a lesser sum has been paid by United.
A. Ball would remain the costliest player—s47l,soo for his move from Everton to Arsenal this season.
