475 more beds
Since last Friday when the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee made a fresh appeal for private home accommodation for visitors to the Games, it has received offers of an additional 475 beds. This was the figure at midafternoon yesterday and was the result of 176 inquiries made to the Games office by Christchurch householders. This brings the number of private beds promised to more than 1400, but to meet the expected demand about 10,000 will probably be needed.
The chairman of the accommodation committee (Mr D. L. Hogan) described the latest response as encouraging. He said he was hopeful that many more offers would be made before the committee began selling tickets—and with the tickets allocating accommodation — overseas in September this year.
