A microwave speed check on new seal on State Highway 1 between Ohau Point and Black Miller last December by Traffic Officer J. P. Wilson had its sequel in the Kaikoura Magistrate’s Court. The sum of $3422 in fines and Court costs was imposed by the Magistrate, Mr J. W. P. Watts, SJM., on 82 motorists who exceeded the 20 miles an hour speed restriction signs in the area. The fines ranged from $l5 to a maximum of $6O for the infringements. Traffic Officer Wilson said that the offences had been detected over three days during which time the detector had been used for 23 hours. Speeds had varied from 30 miles an hour to more than 50 miles an hour.
