Cars in park

Sir, —Mr Stillwell should know, since he was then a City Councillor, that the reason for the opening of the Armagh Street entrance to Hagley Park was to do with the profitability of the kiosk, the lease of which is of financial interest to ratepayers. But parking cannot be reserved for a special purpose without costly policing, and it is obvious that all available space in this area will be used by motorists not necessarily visiting the Botanic Gardens. A sensible solution would be to increase and regularise parking facilities reached through the tennis courts entrance, and close the Armagh Street

bridge again. Then we would have access to Gardens and kiosk sufficiently far from the business and university area to discourage general, all-day parking, increasing the pressure for a true solution to city congestion.— Yours, etc.,

“JIM ABELSON.” March 7, 1972.
