Mr Muldoon

WELLINGTON, Feb. 22. The Minister of Finance (Mr Muldoon), tonight welcomed the decision of J. H. Vavasseur and Company to make no further moves to take over the NMA Company.

Mr Muldoon said that he wished to correct one impression in Vavasseur’s statement—that Mr G. A. Thomas, a Vavasseur director in Wellington, received the Government’s views by letter on February 3.

“These views were clearly conveyed to Mr Thomas verbally on February 2 and it was only after it became apparent that Vavasseurs were continuing to purchase large numbers of NMA shares on February 2 that action to prevent this was taken on February 3,” Mr Muldoon said.
