Aust, national wage hearing

(N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright? MELBOURNE, February 22.

The 1972 Australian national wage case began before a full bench of the Arbitration Commission in Melbourne today. First heard in November, the case was adjourned after the Australian Council of Trade Unions had applied unsuccessfully to have its claim heard in two sections, one last year, the other this year. Then the A.C.T.U. industrial advocate (Mr Ralph Willis) told the full bench that he was able to proceed with the unions claim for a basic wage increase of $12.50 a week, but could not proceed with the claim for an increase in the minimum wage to $7O. The bench adjourned the case so that Mr Willis could present both claims together.
