HOCKEY RULES
Changes in off-side
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter— Copyright) LONDON. The newly - constituted international hockey rules board has supported a change to two-man offside in the game. A statement issued after the board’s inaugural meeting last week-end said: “The board considered the proposal from the International Hockey Federation that the number of defenders involved in the offside rule be reduced from three to two. The general consensus of opinion was that it was a desirable change in the best interests of hockey.” Under the board’s constitution, the proposal could not be ratified at the weekend meeting, but the statement said it would come up again at the board’s next meeting, on June 10. If the change is accepted as expected, it is unlikely to come into effect until after the Munich Olympic Games. The rules of hockey have never been, altered in the period immediately before a games.
