Country tennis team wins
The Canterbury Country tennis team beat Nelson, 13-11, in a representative tennis match at Wilding Park on Saturday. Re suits (with Canterbury players named first) were:—
Men’s singles.—A. Hewitt beat A. Griffith, 6-1, 6-1; W. G. Lewthwalte lost to G. Ballantyne, 6-5. 5- 4-6; A. Smith lost to J. Sampson, 2-6, 2-6; B. Forbes beat D. Brydon, 6-5, 6-3; J. Allin beat B. May, 6-5, 4-6, 6-2: R. Watson beat P. Bloomfield, 6-5, 6-5: Doubles: Hewitt and Lewthwaite beat Griffith and Ballantyne, 6-5, 6- Smith and Forbes beat Sampson and Brydon, 5-6, 6-5, 6-1; Watson and Allln beat May and Bloomfield, 6-3, 6-0. Women’s singles: H. Jamieson lost to J. Goodall, 5-6, 1-6; K. Graham beat K. Wright, 6-0, 4-6, 6-0; J.- Dalzell beat G. Turley, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3; J. Lundy lost to G. Rogers, 1-6, 6-4, 0-6; S. Dalzell beat M. Ross, 6-4, 6-3; F. Ormandy beat D. Goodman, 6-1. 3-6, 6-4. Doubles: Jamieson and Graham lost to Goodall and Wright, 3-6, 6-5, 2-6; Dalzell and Dalzell beat Turley and Rogers. 6-4, 6-4; Ormandy and Lundy lost to Ross and Goodman, 6-4, 5-6, 6-8.
