C.F.M. estimates for market

The Canterbury Frozen Meat Company has anounced estimated market realisations for meat for its January lamb pool.

These are mainly 0.7 c or I o.Bc per lb lower than for its! December pool period, which I ended at the end of last! week, but for light-weight I Omegas the reduction is 1.9 c. I These are the figures on which the company makes’ advance payments on meat! to farmers who elect to put’ their lambs into the pool! system. The initial payment: represents 85 per cent of the! estimated market realisation’ for meat and the full estimated value of skins. A market realisation payment is made after the lambs have been marketed. A company spokesman said yesterday that the reduction in the estimated market realisations was attributable to the increase in the levy on lambs entering the United Kingdom from tomorrow, the weight of arrivals of lamb in the United Kingdom and the consequent expected downturn in the market, and the need for an increased quantity to go into store so incurring storage charges. Inr the last pool period up| to 20 per cent of lambs being | killed by the company were directed into its pools. For its last pool period the company raised its estimates of meat realisations by from 0.6 c to 3.90 c per lb.
