PURDIE PICKED AT WAIRARAPA

"The Press" Special Service ’ WELLINGTON. ' Troubled by a foot injury In • his last two starts. Purdie i seemed dose to his best again at Awapuni on Monday and he should boat Topsy at level weights in tomorrow's $3OOO Wairarapa Challenge Cup. The two clashed on Monday in the Manawatu Cup, which was also 11 furlongs, and Topsy won with a most impressive staying finish from near last on the tarn. Purdie was finishing on in the last two furlongs of the Manawatu Cup when he began to veer out in a manner which suggested he was still feeling the effect of the injury to his near forefoot.

His dive across the track did not come to a halt until he collided with Riverview which resulted in his relegation from fourth to fifth behind Riverview. The progeny of Pakistan II seem to dominate the second leg, the Teacher’s Whisky Handicap. There are three in the field: Sharda. Pakistan Prince and Ayub Khan,'and they should take the major prizes.
