Part of pay restored

(N.Z. Preu Association) AUCKLAND, December 1. Auckland storemen and packers have accepted partial reinstatement of wage increases cut by the Remuneration Authority. Storemen lost $2.50 a week, but after a re-hearing regained 50c, plus $1 after a year. Warehousemen, in their award, lost $3 a week, but regained $l, plus $1 after a year. Almost 2000 members of the Auckland Storemen and Packers’ Union decided at a stop-work meeting today to accept the new rates “under duress.” According to the union’s secretary (Mr W. D. A. Crossfield) “There’s nothing else we can do.” More than 150 union members covered by an award for railway container work have asked the union and employers to seek a re-hearing of rates. They had $3 a week cut from agreed rates, but want this modified in light of changes to the storemen’s and warehousemen's rates.
