Softball’s mini-tour
The American aervlcemen'a team from the Harold E. Holt communications station, in the North-West Cape of Australia, flew into Christchurch yesterday and lost it first twilight softball match to Operation Deep Freeze, 6-8, at the Papanui Domain. According to the Deep Freeze player-coach (Mr A. G. Mansfield), the team will play Western Suburbs at the domain this evening and play a double-header against United and Operation Deep Freeze under floodlights at English Park, tomorrow evening. Mr Mansfield said that it was hoped to play a match againbt the Canterbury Beatty Cup team at Ray Blank Park, Ham, on Saturday morning. Harold E. Holt, which travelled in a United States Navy aircraft, visited Christ church in early December two seasons ago and played a series of matches against Canterbury and the leading senior clubs.
