Safe blown open
Between $250 and $3OO in cash and cheques was stolen when a safe in a solicitor’s office in Montreal Street was blown open with gelignite at the week-end.
The strongroom door was damaged but little damage was done to the office. Other thefts
Liquor worth $450 was stolen from the Halswell Tavern when it was burgled on Sunday night. Thieves took 300 cigarettes from South Island Tyre Sales, Ltd, 297 Lincoln Road, also at the week-end.
