N.C.F. Kaiapoi coped well

After a difficult trading year in by-products the results of N.C.F. Kaiapoi, Ltd, were considered satisfactory, the chairman (Mr I. A. Hart) says in the annual report. Although processing charges were increased because of the rises in wages and other costs they did not fully compensate for the increases and the reduced returns from by-products. The net profit was $66,496 for the year to September 30. Last year the profit was $31,870 but Mr Hart says that the results are not comparable because of changes in operating arrangements. The company was able to meet the required hygiene standard set for the year at a nominal cost but over the next three years a "large amount of money will be needed,” Mr Hart says. The directors had considered redeeming the preference shares but in view of the state of the industry and the uncertainty of future developments they thought it would be unwise to make a recommendation at present. I The profit was reached; after providing $1626 less fot | depreciation at $69,752 and $31,65$ more at $90,332 foi interest, insurance and taxation.
