CLIMBING TRAGEDY

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright)

SEOUL, Nov. 29.

Entangled ropes trapped several climbers last night on a windswept mountain top near Seoul. At least seven of the climbers, all on a Sunday picnic, were frozen to death, and a dozen others were injured or suffered frostbite. The scene of the tragedy was the top of Mount Insu, standing 2400 feet above sea level. The victims were descending a 240 ft cliff on ropes which became entangled by strong winds. It took five hours for the news to reach Seoul, badly delaying rescue efforts by a force of 100 men.
