(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SAIGON, Nov. 29.
Two young women who are reported to belong to a Chinese Communist organisation assassinated a leading Chinese newspaper publisher at his home in Saigon today, national police reported, the Associated Press said.
Mr Quach Phat, aged 57, was shot to death with a Chinese K 54 pistol as he was leaving for his office. He was the publisher of the “Thanh Cong” and “Tan Sanh” newspapers, two of the largest Chinese publications in Saigon. Mr Phat was described as a Nationalist Chinese and a supporter of the Saigon Government of President Nguyen Van Thieu. Seven of his children attend school on Taiwan.
A spokesman for the National Police said that “following an investigation it was determined that the two girls belonged to a Chinese Communist organisation.” Both escaped after wounding the driver of a vehicle parked outside, whom they suspected of being a security policeman. He was not hurt seriously. Police described the women as being about 18 and 22 years old. Reports from the scene said the women had disguised themselves as street vendors.
