Pay deductions for Games
Sir,—Yesterday a corres-, pondent pointed out that moves had been made fcr money to be deducted from employees’ pay to help finance the Commonwealth Games, while the needy and the suffering in the world remained unhelped. Most people could afford to help them as well as give to the Games. Moreover, I strongly feel that there is an urgent need for immediate action to help the people of East Pakistan. I should like publicly to ask C.0.R.5.0. whether it could approach factories, offices, and other places of employment, and request to be allowed to ask employees whether they would be willing to have a sum of money deducted automatically from their pay for relief to the East Pakistan area. If possible, could the employees specify the amount they are willing to give, so that every cent possible might be obtained for this urgent, crying need?—Yours, etc., SAVE THEM. November 29. 1971.
