Staircase Gully bridge
Sir, —In an article on the history of Scott Bros in “The Press” on Monday, it was stated that among the bridges the firm had built was the Staircase Gully bridge. This is not correct. This bridge was built by the Cleveland Bridge Company. The other bridge Scotts built was the Broken River bridge, a few miles further on.—Yours, etc., GEO WASHINGTON.
October 6, 1971. [Mr T. Smith, manager of the Atlas sales division of Scott Brothers, said that the firm’s records showed that a bridge in Staircase Gully was built by Scott Brothers. However, he understood that there were two bridges only a short distance apart in Staircase Gully, and the correspondent could have been referring to the wrong one.]
