Values firm at Tinwald
All classes of prime sheep were forward in smaller numbers at this week’s Tinwald sale. Values opened on a par with last week’s rates, but as the sale progressed, medium and light-weight hoggets improved by 20c to 30c a head. Quality in a small entry of spring lambs was good, and prices were on a par with recent sales. Best lambs sold from $4.93 to $5.10, and medium lambs from $4.70 to $4.90. Values for a smaller yarding of hoggets were quoted as firm. Most of the yarding comprised late autumn or early springshorn sheep. Values were: Best shorn hoggets, $5.25 to $5.75; medium, $4.80 to $5.20; lighter shom, $4.10 to $4.70; woolly hoggets, $4.45 to $5.10. Two and four-tooth ewes sold from $2.85 to $3.80, and fourtooth wethers from $2.75 to $3.80. Although more adult ewes were offered than last week, values remained fully firm, and in the case of heavy ewes, there was an improvement. Woolly ewes, $2.80 to $3.50; best shorn ewes, $2.85 to $3.10; medium shorn, $2.50 to $2.75; light ewes, $2.15 to $2.35; boners, $1 to $1.75; overfat, $2.40 to $2.65. In a small entry of store sheep crossbred lambs sold from $2.10 to $3.10; halfbred wether hoggets at $3.10, and shorn Romney ewes with late lambs at foot at $3.20 all counted. Most classes of prime cattle had a sound sale, although heavy-weights were easier. Values were:— Medium steers, $l4O to $152; light-weights, $125 to $138; medium heifers, to $122; light heifers, $94.50 to $110; vealers, $9l to $109; butchers’ cows, to $126; medium cows, $9O to $111; light cows $7B to $B2,
