Decision on petition

CN.Z. Press Association)

WELLINGTON, Nov. 28. A petition which seeks amendments to the Nurses and Midwives Act, 1945, has been recommended to the Government for “favourable consideration.”

The chairman of the Social Services Committee (Mr Di A. Highet (Nat., Remuera) reported on the petition of F. H. K. Moore and 3922 others. The petitioners ar- asking that before a Nurses and Midwives Board can revoke its approval for a nurse training school, it must hold a public inquiry. The board’s power to revoke or limit its approval should be restricted where an adequate pass rate is achieved by the training school. The third point, on which the committee recommended, was for a right of appeal to the Supreme Court against decisions of the board to be extended to hospital boards.
