Golf leader challenged

H. Irwin, seeking his first victory in four years on the United States golf circuit, took a one-stroke lead, in the heritage classic yesterday, but faced a challenge from J. Nicklaus and A. Palmer in the final round. The 26-year-oid Irwin had a three-under par 68 for a 54-hole total of 209. He leads by one stroke from R. Lunn and M. McLenidon, is two ahead of Nicklaus and three in front of Palmer.
Irwin has rounds of 68, 73, 68; Lunn, 71, 68, 71; McLendon. 71, 67, 72; Nicklaus, 71 69, 71; Palmer, 69, 74, 69.
