Line honours to Avon I crew
The powerful Avon I eight r won line honours in the New Brighton Bridge to Kerr's , Reach race on Saturday, followed by Canterbyry I, Union I, and Christ's College. 1 The Avon crew, with five New Zealand representatives, was the ! last to start the three-mile han-
I dicap race. Canterbury, seventh •to start, rowed a fine race and (finished only 22 seconds behind Avon. Christ’s College proved more than capable of competing against the best club crews with their time of 19min 35sec—3min Msec ahead of the last club crew to cross the line. On adjusted times, only 19sec (separated the first three crews to finish. This is an encouraging | result so early in the season ‘ because all three crews will be 1 competing against each other 'during the next two months and j a half before the national championships. and it will be interesting to see which crow manages to gain most points for i its club in provincial and interclub regattas. The Canterbury coach (Mr T. le Bas) said he was pleased with ; the crew’s performance, and the general feeling among the Avon oarsmen was that the race had been a good test of fitness and ; stamina.
