Dyslexia
Sir, —“Jim Abelson” is right. Autism and dyslexia are just fashionable words; they must not terrify parents. I myself rushed to the library to seek further knowledge on the subject of dyslexia—then sat still and recalled various children whom I had helped because they were “slow” or “dumb.” If anyone comes up with a nice, high-sounding name to label the poor unfortunates who cannot cope with mathematics, I will be the first to admit that I come into that group. “Mathadazia" sounds appropriate.—Yours, etc., RUTH THORN. November 27,1971.
