Fund-raising venture
A method of fund raising that is probably new to the country, has been adopted by the North Beach Surf Club. This morning club members will begin pushing their surf boat, Tiki 11, weighing one ton and a half, and mounted on a special trailer, along the road to Kaiapoi. There, it will be launched in the river, rowed across the bar of the Waimakariri, and back down the coast to North Beach.
The total distance to be covered by the boat is 30 miles, and it is on the basis of the distance covered, that members of the public have been invited to sponsor the craft. Money raised from the venture will be used to buy equipment.
