Purge in P.L.A.
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) DAMASCUS, Oct. 10. Twenty-nine officers of the Palestine Liberation Army, in addition to the commander-in-chief and the chief of staff, have been affected by an Army purge, according to sources close to the Palestine Liberation Organisation in Damascus.
The P.L.O. executive committee announced only the dismissal of Brigadier AbdelRazzak al-Yahia, the P.L.A. commander, and Colonel Othman Haddad, the Chief of Staff. A former commander, Brigadier Misbah al-Budeiri, was reinstated as Chief of Staff and given full powers as Commander-in-Chief. The committee gave no reasons for the dismissals. The sources said that the committee’s decision was part of a comprehensive purge within the P.L.A. command, designed to put an end to irresponsibility and indiscipline. All the cashiered officers were supporters of either Brigadier Yahia or Colonel Haddad.
According to the sources, the P.L.O. executive committee, now meeting in Damascus, was discussing among other things, the consolidation of national unity and organising resistance units.
