IMMIGRANT EXODUS
Australian inquiry. (N.Z. Preit Ann.—Copyright) CANBERRA, Sept. 22. The Australian Department of Immigration has begun an investigation into why so many immigrants leave Australia after their compulsory two-year stay. Officials say that 2718 former settlers left Australia in July, and that this was the highest figure recorded for that month. Jt compares with 1362 in July of last year. The number of immigrants arriving in Australia in July was 13,254, about 1000 fewer than in July, 1970. This, however, was in line with the Government's decision to reduce the migrant Intake for 1971-72 by 30,000.
