WHEAT BOARD REQUEST
More than 4000 wheatgrowers have filled in circulars sent to them last month by the Wheat Board and returned them, but the board is seeking the return also of the balance of the circulars that it sent to more than 9000 growers throughout the country. The information is required as the basis for a new pricing system for wheat supplied by the board to millers, which has been requested by millers.
There will, however, be no change in the system of paying growers. The assistant general manager of the board, Mr E. R. W. Reed, said that the effect of the allowances that the board would make would be that the fanner would be left bearing the cost of putting his wheat free on rail at his nearest station. Mr Reed said it was important that growers should return the circulars, particularly those in areas where wheat could and was being delivered by road from the farm to the mill or from the farm to the port.
It was desired to put the ■ new system into operation : for the coming harvest and I if farmers did not return the i necessary information it i would have to be obtained i by other means and in this i case it might not be so • accurate.
Mr Reed said that the board had had discussions with the wheatgrowers’ section of Federated Fanners about this and anyone who wanted the matter explained further to him should contact a member of the section or the board.
