New footrot vaccine
A second drug company has announced the release of a vaccine to combat footrot. Cooper, McDougall, and Robertson, Ltd, said this week that the new vaccine would be commercially produced in New Zealand, and would soon be available to farmers.
The development of the vaccine stems from research on footrot at the McMaster Laboratory, Sydney, by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation. The announcement by Cooper, McDougall and Robertson said the commercial feasibility of its vaccine had been proved at the
Wellcome Foundation’s laboratories in England. The vaccine was released there for commercial use last month. Estimates of the benefits of the vaccine include a saving of sl6m in Australia and about sBm in New Zealand. It is certainly one of the most welcome stock health developments of recent times.
