Chance to atone
(N.Z.PA.-Reuter) LONDON. The Canadian-owned Crowned Prince (by Raise a Native—Gay Hostess), which cost a world record $454,316 as a yearling, has a chance to redeem his reputation when he runs in the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster today. On his racecourse debut at Newmarket last month he started a 7/2 on favourite and finished only sixth of 19 runners. The British champion jockey, L. Piggott, who had the mount on that occasion, will again partner the expensive two-year-old chestnut colt, which is owned by Mr F. McMahon, of Vancouver. In a sharp work-out at Newmarket on Tuesday, Crowned Prince, fitted with blinkers, moved extremely well. His trainer, B. Van Cutsem, commented: “Everything he has done at home proves he is a good horse.”
