Lady Pomare dies (N.Z. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, September 8. i Lady Pomare. the widow of ;§ir Maui Pomare, died in Wellington Hospital today. Sir Maui Pomare, who died in 1930, was one of New Zealand’s great Maori politicians. He was buried in a special vault at Manukonhi Pa at Waitara, in Taranaki. His wife’s ashes will be brought to Waitara on Saturday for a tangi before being placed in the vault. Lady Pomare, M.8.E., spent a busy Hfe included extensive war work ranging from the First World War. She was a member of various service clubs and was associated with many sporting organisations. She was bom in Gisborne, but for many years had lived in Lower Hutt. She has represented the Maori race on all recent Royal visits to New Zealand.
