Rally gathers pace on busy market
The rally gathered pace in active trading on New Zealand stock exchanges yesterday when more of the market leaders changed hands at higher prices. A few leaders drifted lower, but the tone of the market continued to respond to buying interest.
The meat companies were generally better again. C.F.M. recovered 4c to 106 c and N.Z. Refrigerating rose 5c to 95c. But S.F.M. eased 5c to 435 c and R. Hellaby was 1c lower at 143 c. N.Z. Insurance and South British Insurance were both higher in price while Feltex, and Forest Products made up more ground. Alcan, Alex Harvey, and C.P.D. were a cent or two firmer. into line with the offer price’ of 135 c. The retailers were mixed but prices changed verv little. Falls were the most severe among the less active stocks with Andrews and Beaven now down 6c, Consolidated Brick notes down 10c, and L.W.R. down sc. Deans, Newton King, and Spedding were also 5c lower, while Woolcraft Klipper retracted further by the same amount.
