Show Grounds new bar

J. and W. Jamieson, Ltd, has begun construction of a new bar and shower block at the Addington Show Grounds. Costing about $20,000, the building should be finished for the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s annual show in November. The building, 108 ft by 22ft, was being built on the reverse side of the oval embankment, adjacent to the horse lines, said the association’s secretary (Mr T. M. R. Maskew) yesterday. The bar will be convertible to four changing roms for use by the Canterbury Rugby League during the winter. There will be showers and toilets also. The Canterbury Rugby. League, the association’s main tenant in winter months, will make a contribution of almost half the cost of the building. The old bar, behind the main stand on the southern side of the oval, will be demolished shortly. In recent years, it has twice been ravaged by fire. The Canterbury Frozen Meat Company, Ltd, intended to demolish its. building at the Show Grounds after the 1971 show, Mr Maskew said. The building was of little value to the association.
