BAPTISTS’ APPEAL
$40,000 sought A target of $40,000 has been set for an appeal by the 1 Baptist Union of New Zea-! land, to be held for a week; this month. The secretary of the Can-terbury-Westland Baptist Association (Mr N. Dodge) said last year’s target was barely reached. The money Would be chan-; nelled solely into the work of the Baptist Church in New; Zealand: the Maori work, con- ! centrated mainly in Rotorua and Pukekohe, the Christian education programme for young people, a fund for land purchase, and the Baptist Theological College in Auckland.
Mr Dodge said he was confident that the appeal total would be reached this , year, mainly because of better promotion techniques, which had raised the national response to the Baptist Self-Denial Appeal held in June from a past average of $60,000 to $115,000 last year. The promotion of emergency causes, such as Pakistan refugee relief, had been responsible for most of the increase.
This year films on the work of the Baptist Church in New Zealand would encourage a greater response to the appeal than there had been in the past.
Most of the response would come from a special offering held in Baptist churches throughout the country after two weeks of promotion, said Mr Dodge.
