Mr Brooks ‘left in the dark'
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, September 8. Mr B. T. Brooks—the man in the middle of the industrial mediator controversy—has been officially “left in the dark” on the affair.
“Officially, I have been told nothing,” he said in Auckland tonight. He said that not only had
the Government failed to get in touch with him, but the selection commitee had not even informed him that he had been unanimously recommended for the position of chief industrial mediator. For this reason, he was unable to comment on the Government’s decision to reject the selection committee’s recommendation. However, he did comment on Mr Muldoon’s recent suggestion that he was a wayout Leftist pnd an industrial militant. “I treat his allegations with great amusement. I find it incredible that that sort of thing is being said in NeW Zealand today,” he said. “However, I am bitterly disappointed that such an important position as this has been turned into a political football. “I agreed to apply for it only because I considered it was a vitally important position,” he said.
