Car chase; man sought
Last night Christchurch detectives were still seeking a man who ran off from a converted car after it crashed into a pole in Vardon Crescent, Shirley, early yesterday morning. The crash occurred after the car, with two met) in it, had been followed for about half an hour by detectives in a patrol car. At one stage the car, taken from Chester Street, forced the police car off the road and down the bank of the Avon River. Another police patrol found the converted vehicle in Vardon Crescent badly damaged, and the area was cordoned. One man was captured soon after but the other was able to elude the police. A man appeared in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday and was remanded in custody.
