Doctor to go to conference
The head of the department t 01 cardiology at Princess Mar- j garet Hospital (Dr D. R. Hay) will leave for London this | month to attend the Second t World Conference cnj Smoking and Health. He will represent the Health Department at the conference and he will be supported by the CanterburyWestland division of the Cancer Society of New Zealand and the National Heart p Foundation. p Dr Hay said yesterday that < as it was now generally recognised that there was a relationship between smoking i and heart complaints the | theme of the conference j would be what could be done about the problem. f Some of the topics of the > conference included the a changing of adult smoking behaviour, smoking control among school children, the t economic and social consequence's of widespread changes in smoking habits, < the role of the mass media, and smoking as an international public health prob- , lem. Dr Hay will return to New 1 Zealand about the middle of October and will make a report to the Health Department, the Cancer Society, and the National Heart Foundation.
