Top try-scorer
The “flying policeman” of Canterbury Rugby, R. J. Woolhouse, became the leading try-scorer in New Zealand this season when he gained four tries against West Coast yesterday. Woolhouse, who has been the provincial leftwing in all 11 matches, now has 14 tries to his credit —three more than M. P. Collins, the Otago leftwing. He needs only one more try to equal the Canterbury record of 15 set by W. M. Birtwistle in 1964.
His four tries yesterday gave Woolhouse a century of points for Canterbury in tries. His aggregate is now 36, and in one memorable moment in 1969 he also dropped a goal against Otago.
On Saturday, against Mid - Canterbury, woolhouse will have another game to remember. It will be his fiftieth appearance for Canterbury.
