RUTHERFORD CENTENARY
Functions at Hamilton
(N.Z. Press Association)
HAMILTON, Sept. 7.
The centenary of the birth of Lord Rutherford will be celebrated in Hamilton on September 18, with two functions—one a family reunion and the other for New Zealand scientists, those who knew Lord Rutherford, and family members. Lord Rutherford, who split the atom in 1932, has been remembered already in Russia where a symposium on his work was organised by Pytor Kapitza, one of his pupils. The actual centenary of his birth fell on August 30. The headmaster of Southwell School, Hamilton, the Rev. P. C. S. Sergei, is a nephew of Lord Rutherford, and is chairman of a family committee organising the function.
