Oils suffer heavily as falls persist
Most stocks eased further in quiet trading on Australian stock exchanges yesterday. Oils suffered the most severe losses.
Woodside Oil shed 17c to 110 c after a report that the Bedout No. 1 well had been abandoned without encountering a hydrocarbon show. Mid Eastern followed suit, dropping 13c to 75c. Ampol Ex eased 7c to 105 c, while Oil Search, Timor, Bounty, Beach, and A:A.O. traded marginally lower. Kathleen Investments fell 30c to 320 c, and Queensland Mines shed a similar amount to 510 c. Con Gold, Peko, and Metals Ex dropped 10c each, while WMC, and Utah both retreated sc. C.R.A. fell 10c to 670, and New B.H. rose the same amount to 940 c. Poseidon finned 50c to 1950 c, and Hammersley recovered 5c to 300 c. Whim Creek put on 20c to 460 c, but most other speculatives eased fractionally. B.H.P. fell 10c to 1280 c, and there was a special sale of 10,000 at 1275 c. Philip Morris eased 10c to 850 c, while Myer, Thiess, and Coles all closed 3c lower.
