Italian accused of spying
ROME, September 7. Ah Italian Navy petty officer, Franco Silvestri, has been arrested and charged
with passing documents to Communist countries while working at the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation s headquarters in Naples. A Rome evening newspaper, the "Giomale d’ltalia” reported today that an unnamed Soviet Union diplomat, described as a colonel in the Russian K.G.B. had been expelled from Italy after Silvestri’s arrest but a spokesman for the Soviet Union Embassy in Rome commented: “The report does not correspond to reality.’ Usually reliable sources in Rome say that Silvestri passed the documents to Rus* sia and other Warsaw Pact countries.
