Landscaping praised
(From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU, September 2. The fact that Timaru City was the "pathfinder” in appointing a landscape architect for development work on Caroline Bay was commended by the professor of horticulture at Lincoln College (Professor T. M. Morrison), guestspeaker at the one hundred and first annual meeting of the Timaru Horticultural Society this week. “Timaru should be proud of this, and more cities should emulate its example.” Landscape architecture was at a point of expansion in New Zealand, and people were becoming more conscious of their environment, he said. Broadly speaking, the farmer and the engineer had dictated to the rest of the country their environment, and the population was "fed up” with the abuses that some farmers and engineers had caused, Professor Morrison said.
Israel services.—Telegrams to Israel are no longer subject to delay. The Chief Postmaster at Christchurch (Mr M. T. Reedy) said on Wednesday that the telegraph and telegram services had returned to normal.
