Exotic cattle imports

(N.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON, Sept. 2. Dr A Carter, a geneticist with the Ruakura Agricultural Research Centre, left, for France yesterday to buy a number of exotic cattle for New Zealand. Dr Carter will inspect the Blonde d’Aquitaine breed, the limousin, the French Simmental and the Maine Anjou. Young bulls, just weaned, will be selected also—on the records of their sires and dams as well as their own performances. It is hoped that the animals will arrive in New Zealand early next year when they will go into quarantine on Somes Island.

The purpose of buying the cattle is to evaluate them on farms of the Research Division. including Tokanui.
