FASTER MARINAS
Special versions of the Morris Marina have been prepared by the specialtuning department of British Leyland. The department’s fleet now includes two 1.3-litre Marina coupes, a 1.8-litre saloon and a 1.8-litre coupe. All feature different stages of suspension and engine tune, the most powerful 1.8litre having 140 b.h.p. available.
One of the Marina 1.3litres has a special cylinder heat and twin carburettors, plus a balanced crankshaft, giving it a top speed of more than 93 m.p.h. The 1.8litre coupe has a top speed of 110 m.p.h. and 0 to 60 m.p.h. acceleration in 9.lsec (compared with 95 m.p.h. and 12.2 sec for the standard car). The other two cars have only mildly-tuned engines.
