To replace the cancelled Mexican Grand Prix, a Formula I race will be held at the Brands Hatch circuit in Britain- on October 24 It will be called the world championship victory race, in honour of Jackie Stewart’s win in this year’s world championship series. The final round of the European Formula 500 championship will be held at the same meeting. * * *

Only eight of the drivers now racing in Formula I have won a Grand Prix event during the last four years, the authoritative British magazine “Motor” reports. Four of these drivers have won only once. J. Stewart is the top scorer with 15 wins, J. Ickx has won seven, -G. Hill has won four and D. Huhne has won three. Those with just one win to their credit are M. Andretti, E. Fittipaldi, C. Regazzoni and J. Siffert.

Britain now has Europe’s fastest 1-litre engine; Mr H. Bull, of Berkshire, has built a dragster powered by a special 998 c.c. Mini engine which produces more than 200 b.h.p. on nitro-methane fuel. Mr Bull holds three world records with the dragster: for the standing quartermile (9.75 sec and terminal speed of 136 m.p.h.), the standing 500 metres, and the standing kilometre. His terminal speed at the end of the kilometre was 170 m.p.h. # * #

Practice for the 1972 New Zealand Grand Prix, which will be sponsored this year by Air New Zealand, will be on January 6 and 7, the N.Z.G.P. organisation has announced. The race will be on January 8. National championship race dates for Pukekohe are October 3 (Auckland Car Club Rothmans meeting), November 14 (Northern Sports C.C.—Dunlop meeting), March 12 (Northern Sports C.C. Rothmans meeting) and April 9 (Auckland C.C. Dunlop meeting). For each of the national meetings, practice will be held on the previous day. * * *

A new event, the Grand Prix of Brazil, may be added to the Formula I world championship calendar for next year. It is proposed that the event should be held in March, after the South African Grand Prix.
