Barbara Del not to run
Plans for Barbara Del to resume racing at the Wellington Trotting Club’s spring meeting have been dropped. Her trainer, D. J. Townley, said yesterday he would restrict her to racing at trials for a few weeks, with a race or two to follow to bring her to her peak for the New Zealand Derby Stakes at Addington Raceway in November. Barbara Del looked to be carrying plenty of condition when she raced at the Methven trials on Tuesday and she gave the impression that the run I would improve her considerably. Townley does not want to run the risk of "flattening” her with a hard race at Hutt Park if she is not quite at her peak.
