BASKETBALL RESULTS
(N.Z. Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH. Even though it lost both its games, Bay of Plenty provided the highlights of the first day of section play in the New Zealand men’s invitation indoor basketball tournament, in Palmerston North on Tuesday. In the morning it led Wellington 32-30 at half-time only to go down in a desperate finish, 75*67.
In the evening’s matches, Canterbury led Bay of Plenty 49-47 at half-time and in the second spell Bay of Plenty took the lead and held it until the last five minutes before losing 81-79. In a morning match, Canterbury coasted to a comfortable 94-56 win over Napier. In the evening Napier, show!ing improved form, put up a 'spirited fight against Otago 1 before losing 78-69. Nelson 103, New Plymouth 45; Canterbury 94, Napier 56; Wellington 75, Bay of Plenty 67; Panmure 84, Hutt Valley 51; Palmerston North 89, New Plymouth 53; Otago 78, Napier 69; Canterbury 81, Bay of Plenty 79.
