SOME RESPONSE TO HIGHER PROFITS ON EASY MARKET

The majority of the price changes were down in quiet trading on New Zealand stock exchanges yesterday, but there was some firmness evident, especially in companies that had reported higher profits.

Associated Group Securi-1 ties was 3c firmer at 178 c ;n! a generally steady finance; section of the market. Beaths was taken a cent higher to 66c in an initial re-: sponse to its higher profit. However, the new shores were lower in price. Feltex gained 4c at 364 c on its profit announcement. Carter recovered 2c to 142 c and the rights were also 2c firmer on the report of a, higher profit by Robert Holt. industrial Chemical rights jumped 4c to 10c. Midland, at 137 c. and Taupo Totara, at 110 c. were 2c better, while Woolworth, N.Z.. gained 3c to 78c. Consolidated Brick and Mount Cook were 5c and 6c lower respectively after adjusting for their dividends.

I Dunlop N.Z., L.W.R. new, and Merchant Finance rei tracted 5c each, while Printing and Packaging lost Bc to 165 c.
